Neicy Frey is a painter based in Spokane, Washington who carefully composes surreal bouquets and scenarios of fluid organic shapes in her paintings.  Her unique style depicts large-scale subjects, often floral and oceanic shapes, using drippy washes of pigment overlaid with rambling contour lines.  Neicy’s paintings are infused with a dreamlike quality that is organic and inviting, and the bold scale of her work carries a modern sensibility.

Neicy draws much of her imagery and inspiration from a childhood spent in South India and Malaysia, her palette and design a translation of the brilliant colors, patterns and ornate decoration found in architecture, clothing and folk art of Southeast Asia. Roughly ten years after returning to the States, Neicy took up painting and participated in her first show 'Raw Space', an event for emerging artists in Spokane.

Since that first show in 2001, Neicy has moved from realistic floral paintings to a much looser style, experimenting more specifically with line and texture which is evident in her recent work.  In addition to shows at her downtown studio and local galleries, Neicy's work can be found in boutiques around the Pacific Northwest.
